Apple is reportedly developing a more advanced HomeView smart display with a motorized robotic arm that can rotate its screen toward the person interacting with it. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the product is not intended to move around a home; instead, its display would automatically reposition itself to face the speaker.
The reported model would use a display of about 9 inches, up from the current HomeView’s 7-inch panel. Its arm could enable 360-degree rotation, while voice recognition would identify the active speaker and direct the screen toward that person.

The concept could make interactions with Siri and FaceTime more natural when several people are in the same room. Current HomeView hardware can recognize household members and show personalized information, including messages and private details, but users must physically adjust the device’s orientation themselves.
The larger challenge is software reliability. Siri would need to distinguish speakers accurately, including when multiple people are talking, and switch naturally between users for the moving display to provide a meaningful advantage.

The current HomeView is equipped with Apple’s A18 processor and 8GB of RAM, and its release was reportedly delayed repeatedly while its AI capabilities were prepared. The robotic HomeView is said to be under consideration for 2027 or 2028, though Apple has not announced the product or confirmed its availability.
