Apple has confirmed that Samsung Display is manufacturing the foldable OLED panel used in the iPhone Duo. In an interview with Michael Fisher, also known as MrMobile, Apple hardware engineering vice president Rich Dinh and senior display technology director JP Guillou said the screen is a custom component built around Apple’s design, durability and usability targets.
Apple said it defines those product requirements before passing specifications to its component partners. Guillou emphasized that the iPhone Duo does not use a standard foldable OLED panel from Samsung Display’s catalog. Its display may be close in size to the one used by the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, but Apple says the construction differs.
- IP68 dust and water resistance is among Apple’s stated priorities for the foldable design.
- The 7.6-inch internal display uses an under-display camera to avoid a visible camera cutout, with Apple accepting a trade-off in camera image quality for an uninterrupted screen surface.
- Apple describes the inner panel as using a nano texture to reduce reflections, while a more matte finish is intended to make the hinge-area crease less noticeable. The outer screen measures 5.4 inches.
The iPhone Duo can also be used partially folded, with its interface adapting to that position in a manner similar to Samsung’s Flex Mode. Samsung has previously deployed under-display cameras in earlier Galaxy Z Fold generations, but Apple’s implementation combines that approach with its own durability and display-finish requirements.
Reports have separately pointed to a three-year exclusivity agreement for Samsung Display’s foldable panels, although that arrangement has not been confirmed. The iPhone Duo display supply relationship therefore appears established, while the terms and duration of any exclusivity deal remain unclear.
