The very talented developer Geohot has finally released the blacksn0w baseband unlock for the iPhone 3G and 3GS. In case you’re trying to unlock your handset on firmware 3.1.2 in an attempt to use the iPhone on more mobile carriers, there’s a short guide below, showing you how to do it.

blacksn0w

You can install the software directly through blackra1n RC3 and we have to remind you that Apple can patch the blacksn0w exploit with their next firmware update. Moving on to the instructions, you’ll have to donwload the free iPhone 3 toolbar and install it from here.

Afterwards, you’ll have to click the Downloads button, then the blackra1n RC3 link to download it. Connect your handset to your PC and open the blackra1n app, clicking the “make it ra1n” button next. Blackra1n will get the iPhone working in recovery mode and display Geohot’s image, performing the jailbreak as it does this.

After the jailbreak, the iPhone will reboot and you’ll notice the blackra1n icon on the handset’s screen. Tap the blackra1n icon to open it, tap Cydia, Rock and blacksno0w and then click the Install button to start the installation. Restart the iPhone and you’re all set!
