Google is updating Gemini for Home with improved background-conversation filtering, lower latency for common requests and support for recognizing up to three configured languages. The changes are intended to make the voice assistant more reliable in busy households, particularly when multiple languages are used regularly.

Google says the update reduces response times for smart-home controls, music requests, alarms and timers. It also includes reliability improvements for Find My Phone. Gemini for Home’s three-language capability expands on the older Google Assistant, which could recognize up to two languages.

The Gemini-related changes are being enabled separately for users in the Gemini for Home Early Access program, rather than arriving automatically for every Nest speaker owner. Google has not confirmed broader availability for these voice improvements.

Google Home app fixes focus on setup and controls

Google Home version 4.31.27.1 is rolling out on Android. The app can securely save Wi-Fi network details on a phone and reuse them while adding future devices, reducing the need to re-enter network information during setup. Google also says it has addressed Bluetooth and Wi-Fi problems that could lead to stalls or disconnections while setting up Nest products on Android and iOS.

  • Lights and light groups should now switch off correctly when their brightness slider reaches 0%.
  • Matter switches should correctly show their offline status and respond through the All Devices tab.
  • A long press on tiles in Favorites should again open the controller or routine editor.
  • Awnings and curtains should no longer be automatically identified as blinds.
  • Online cameras and doorbells should be easier to distinguish visually from inactive devices.

Google has also added audio previews for Nest Doorbell chimes. Users can listen to a standard chime or a seasonal theme in the Google Home app before applying it.

The release concentrates on core reliability rather than a major new smart-home feature. The remaining question is when the Early Access Gemini improvements will move beyond that limited rollout.
