Google is rolling out Battery Usage Summaries for the Pixel 10 series and newer Pixel phones, adding a plain-language explanation of unusually fast battery drain to Android’s existing power statistics. The feature can flag the apps associated with higher-than-expected consumption rather than leaving users to interpret percentage tables and graphs alone.
The summary appears at the top of the Battery Usage menu. It identifies major battery-consuming apps, monitors app background activity, and compares current overall and per-app power use against the device’s recent average. In one rollout example, a Pixel reported that about 15% of its battery had been used earlier than usual in the day, with WhatsApp and Google listed among the leading consumers.
Google says the feature requires the latest version of AI Core and will turn on automatically when available. The company’s current support documentation does not specify the underlying on-device model used to create the summaries.
An earlier APK teardown reported by Android Authority indicated that Gemini Nano could generate the summaries locally on the phone, but that remains unconfirmed by Google. For now, availability is limited to Pixel 10 devices and later generations, leaving older Pixels outside the rollout.
