HMD’s long-rumored Slate Tab 5G has resurfaced in leaked renders, this time appearing as a 15.6-inch Android 2-in-1 rather than the smaller tablet described in earlier reports. The images, shared by leaker Smashx_60, show a large slate with bottom-edge pogo pins that appear intended for a detachable keyboard or another accessory.

The renders show two color options and a polycarbonate-like finish reminiscent of Nokia’s Lumia era. At the rear, the tablet has a single camera, HMD branding and the connector array. Its broad display and keyboard-ready design give it a Surface-like form factor, while the colorful styling recalls the Nokia Lumia 2520.

The Slate Tab 5G name has appeared before. Leaks from 2024, when the project was also reportedly known internally as HMD Scarecrow, pointed to a very different device: a 10.6-inch 2K IPS display with a 90Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor, 8GB of RAM and a battery of roughly 9,250mAh.

The newly reported 15.6-inch 2K panel would place the device in a substantially different class, closer to a laptop-style Android convertible or portable display than a conventional compact tablet. However, there is no current information confirming whether the earlier chipset, memory or battery details still apply.

The Lumia 2520 comparison extends beyond the color treatment. Nokia’s 2013 tablet combined a 10.1-inch display, colorful polycarbonate construction and keyboard accessories, although it ran Windows RT rather than Android.

HMD has not announced the Slate Tab 5G or provided a release timeline. With nearly two years separating the earlier specifications from these renders, the 15.6-inch design and its final hardware remain unverified until the company confirms the project.
