HONOR is previewing an ARRI-inspired video feature for its forthcoming Magic 9 series that is designed to apply cinematic color treatments with a single tap. Called ARRI Look Cinematic Video, the mode will let users select a visual profile and have the phone automatically process footage without requiring post-production in a separate editing app.
The feature stems from HONOR’s collaboration with German cinema-camera maker ARRI. Image technologies from that partnership first appeared on the HONOR Robot Phone and are now set to reach the company’s next flagship line.
According to HONOR, the processing is inspired by ARRI digital cinema cameras and targets more natural skin tones, controlled bright areas and color balance closer to that associated with cinematic productions. A teaser shows a colorful scene being switched immediately to black and white, while the available looks are expected to include ARRI-6220 and ARRI-7130 profiles alongside effects that shift color temperature from warm to cool.
HONOR also claims the Magic 9 series will deliver clearer video in low-light scenes and when recording distant subjects. Full details of the camera and video system are expected toward the end of September, when the new flagships are due to be introduced.
