Huawei has introduced the Ruiying Z10, an external camera module designed to give its Mate 90 Pro Max and Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design a dedicated 50MP, 1-inch imaging sensor and continuous 10x zoom. The accessory attaches around the phones’ camera area through Huawei’s HyperClick mounting system and uses its own lens assembly rather than relying solely on the handset cameras.

  • 50MP 1-inch RYYB sensor
  • Continuous 10x zoom covering 24mm to 240mm equivalent focal lengths
  • Variable f/2.0 to f/4.5 aperture, optical image stabilization and autofocus
  • A multifunction control ring for zoom adjustments
  • A 19-element optical design arranged in six groups, including ultra-low-dispersion and aspherical elements

The module also includes third-generation Red Maple color sensing, laser autofocus, an anti-flicker sensor and Huawei’s fourth-generation image signal processor. Huawei says the optics use sub-micron-precision aspherical elements and claims its internal MTF measurements surpass those of certain professional 18-200mm lenses.

For video, Huawei says the Ruiying Z10 can move smoothly between 1x and 10x framing without the abrupt transitions associated with switching among a smartphone’s built-in cameras. The accessory also brings new XMAGE color styles and a dedicated camera interface.

Huawei is offering separate Ruiying Z10 versions for the Mate 90 Pro Max and Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design. Its China price is 5,999 yuan. International pricing and availability have not been detailed, and it remains unclear whether the accessory or its compatible Mate 90 models will reach markets beyond China.
