Japanese carrier KDDI recently announced a new Android handset developed by Sharp, the IS03 model, that impresses right away through the 960 x 640 pixel resolution of its display. There’s also a 9.6MP camera on board and other nifty features, that you’ll learn after the break.

KDDI Sharp IS03 comes with a 3.5 inch display matching the high-res of the Retina Display on the iPhone 4 and this is not the first time Sharp impressed us with high resolutions and top notch cameras on its handsets. The screen on this new handset also supports a low power mode, only showing status, missed calls and other info, but relying on mere backlighting for those tasks.

Here’s a list of specifications for the unit:

Connectivity: CDMA 1x EV-DO Rev. A (CDMA 1X WIN), WiFi 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, GPS, infrared
Dimensions: 63 x 121 x 12.6mm
Weight: 138 grams
Memory: up to 32GB microSD cards
Other features: social networking, TV tuner, FM transmitter

The phone will be released by KDDI in Japan in November, but we have no info on its arrival in the US or Europe.
