Unveiled on April 21, the Oppo Find X9 Ultra enters the premium segment with a clear focus on imaging, aiming directly at rivals like the Galaxy S26 Ultra and Xiaomi 17 Ultra. The standout feature is the return of 10x optical zoom, a capability largely abandoned in recent years in favor of shorter zoom ranges. Oppo is essentially revisiting a concept seen on older Huawei and Samsung models, but with updated sensors and AI processing.
The design reflects that ambition. The rear camera module is oversized and deliberately styled to resemble a DSLR setup, with a prominent circular layout and dual periscope lenses. The phone is also on the heavier side, reaching around 236 grams and over 9 mm in thickness depending on the variant. Weight distribution leans toward the top due to the camera hardware, which may affect handling, but also signals what Oppo prioritizes here.
On the front, the device features a 6.82-inch AMOLED LTPO display with a variable refresh rate between 1 and 144 Hz and a resolution close to Quad HD. Bezels are slim at around 1.4 mm, and the panel supports Dolby Vision and 10-bit color, placing it ahead of some competitors still using 8-bit panels. Inside, the phone runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, paired with 12 GB RAM (expandable virtually) and up to 512 GB storage.
Battery capacity is another highlight: a 7,050 mAh unit, with 100W wired charging, around 55W via USB PD, and 50W wireless charging. This positions the device among the most endurance-focused flagships currently available, at least on paper.
Camera system pushes boundaries
The camera setup is the core of the device:
- 200 MP main sensor (Sony LYTIA 901, 1/1.12”, f/1.5, OIS)
- 50 MP ultrawide (Sony LYTIA 600, autofocus)
- 200 MP telephoto (3x zoom, OmniVision)
- 50 MP periscope (Samsung sensor, 10x optical zoom)
- 24-channel multispectral sensor for color accuracy
Zoom capabilities extend up to 120x digitally, assisted by AI processing that attempts to preserve detail at extreme ranges. Oppo also integrates a dedicated camera button with gesture controls for zoom and exposure, similar to recent trends seen in other flagships.
Additional features include 8K video recording, Dolby Vision HDR, LOG support, RAW capture modes, and a wide range of shooting options like underwater mode, dual video, and Hasselblad color tuning. A detachable teleconverter accessory is also mentioned, following a growing trend among flagship camera phones.
AI integration and extras
AI plays a central role across the system. Features include:
- AI photo editing (unblur, reflection removal, clarity boost)
- AI writing tools and text formatting
- Voice-to-text transcription with translation and summaries
- “Mind Space” for organizing screenshots and notes
- Circle to Search and assistant integration (region-dependent)
The device runs ColorOS 16, includes Bluetooth 6.0, 5G connectivity, and even an infrared sensor. Durability is covered by IP66, IP68, and IP69 certifications, along with SGS-rated drop resistance.
Notably, Oppo confirms that unlike its predecessor, the Find X9 Ultra is expected to reach European markets, which broadens its availability beyond China.
