An unannounced Qualcomm flagship chip has reportedly surfaced inside a Qualcomm Reference Device, pointing to an eight-core design with clock speeds reaching about 5.068 GHz. The platform is currently being referred to as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, although Qualcomm has not confirmed that commercial name.
Device Info HW and DevCheck Pro screenshots from the reference hardware list a 2+3+3 CPU configuration. Two performance cores are shown at up to roughly 5.068 GHz, while two groups of three cores are clocked at up to 4.032 GHz and 3.744 GHz, respectively. Earlier reports had associated this arrangement with the SM8975 chipset identifier.
The two three-core clusters appear to use the same core design with different frequency limits. If accurate, that approach could give Qualcomm another way to balance peak performance against power draw in less demanding workloads.
The leak also identifies an Adreno 850 GPU. Qualcomm has separately confirmed a 1.45 GHz clock speed for its upcoming graphics solution, while reports have also pointed to cooling changes for the Gen 6 generation, potentially including an integrated heatsink at chip level.
Qualcomm is expected to introduce its next Snapdragon flagship family at Snapdragon Summit this month. The key remaining questions are whether the Extreme name will reach retail devices and how Qualcomm will separate this model from other Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 variants.
