Volkswagen’s planned €20,000 electric city car could be sold as the ID. Up when it reaches production in 2027. Volkswagen has so far referred publicly only to a production version of the ID. EVERY1 concept, but FOCUS reports that ID. Up is the name under consideration.
The reported name would reconnect the new EV with Volkswagen’s former up! city car, which left production in 2023. The ID. Up is expected to sit below the upcoming ID. Polo in Volkswagen’s electric lineup, targeting a segment where low-cost Chinese EV makers and European rivals are increasing pressure on established brands.

Volkswagen showed the ID. EVERY1 concept in 2025 with a length of 3.88 meters, front-wheel drive and a 70 kW electric motor, equivalent to roughly 95 hp. The concept was quoted with a minimum range of 250 km and a top speed of 130 km/h, although those figures are not final specifications for the production vehicle.
Software may be a more significant part of the project than its modest output. The production car is scheduled to become the first Volkswagen Group vehicle to use a version of the software-defined vehicle architecture developed by Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies. The platform centralizes more vehicle functions in computers and software, enabling over-the-air updates and features that can be added later.

Volkswagen, Audi and Scout prototype vehicles have already undergone winter testing in the US and Sweden. Whether Volkswagen can retain the approximately €20,000 starting price while bringing the new software architecture to market remains a key question ahead of the planned 2027 launch.
