Xiaomi has reportedly canceled the Xiaomi 18 Ultra shortly before it was due to enter production. According to tipster Digital Chat Station, the project’s unusually ambitious camera hardware was expected to drive the final price high enough to hurt sales.
The rumored handset was said to use three 200-megapixel rear cameras, a configuration designed to avoid the resolution compromises often associated with ultra-premium camera systems.
- Main camera: a 200-megapixel 1/1.12-inch sensor with LOFIC technology.
- Ultrawide camera: a 200-megapixel 1/1.56-inch sensor.
- Periscope telephoto camera: a 200-megapixel 1/1.28-inch sensor with LOFIC and continuous optical zoom.
Other reported features included a flat display with near-uniform bezels of roughly 1 mm on all four sides, a multispectral camera, magnetic support for external lenses and symmetrical stereo speakers. The Xiaomi 18 Ultra was also expected to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen6 Extreme processor.
Earlier rumors had suggested Xiaomi would streamline the Xiaomi 18 family to three models, with no Ultra version in the generation.
- Xiaomi 18
- Xiaomi 18 Pro
- Xiaomi 18 Pro Max
The Ultra branding may return with the Xiaomi 19 Ultra, which sources say remains planned as Xiaomi’s next vehicle for top-tier imaging hardware. For now, the key unanswered question is whether Xiaomi revisits the costly three-200-megapixel approach or adopts a more commercially viable camera configuration.
