Vibestream is an open-source home media server that aims to put a polished streaming-style interface in front of a user-managed film and TV library. It retrieves metadata for titles, including posters, descriptions and episode information, while handling files added to the library and preparing them for playback.

The project is built around separating the server-side work from the viewing experience. A user can search for a title, add it to a list and watch it once it is ready, without having to manage file locations or other underlying server details.

Current features include PIN-protected profiles, subtitles, watchlists, viewing history, like and dislike controls, and thumbnail previews when seeking through a movie. TV shows can be requested by individual episode or by season, with the application intended to organize the files behind the scenes.

Vibestream also includes storage-management options: it can retain free space on the server, remove watched films after a set period, and let users define how long a title remains in the library. The developer says remote access uses a secure connection rather than exposing the home server directly to the internet.

The project differs from services such as Stremio in that it is focused on content stored and managed on the user’s own server rather than aggregation through add-ons. It is not presented as a substitute catalog for Netflix, Disney+ or Apple TV.

Vibestream does not provide movies or TV shows, nor does it grant viewing rights; users remain responsible for the sources and content in their libraries. Recommendations based on likes and dislikes, along with parental controls, are still listed as work to be implemented—features that could be significant for its intended household-focused experience.
