Apple may give its entry-level MacBook Neo a more meaningful base-spec upgrade in its second generation. A new leak reported by Notebookcheck says the MacBook Neo 2 is expected in the first half of 2027 with an A19 Pro processor and 12GB of unified memory.
That would be a 50% increase over the 8GB configuration of the first MacBook Neo, which launched in March 2026 with an A18 Pro chip and 256GB SSD. More memory could be particularly significant for an affordable laptop intended to remain usable across several years, even if it would still sit below the 16GB baseline found on many other current Mac configurations.
The new model is also expected to retain the Neo line’s colorful approach. The existing machine is offered in Silver, Blush, Citrus and Indigo, while the successor may receive new finishes. A touchscreen, previously discussed in rumors, is now considered unlikely for this model. Apple is reportedly pursuing touchscreen and OLED technology separately for higher-end laptops.
Several practical details remain unclear, including whether Apple will add a backlit keyboard or a larger trackpad. The current Neo uses a mechanical trackpad as part of its cost-conscious design, and neither change is included in the latest reported specifications.
Apple launched the original MacBook Neo at €699 in Europe. There is no reported price for the MacBook Neo 2, but the move to A19 Pro silicon and 12GB of memory could push the successor higher. Its positioning will matter as Apple is also expected to refresh the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro ranges in 2027, alongside OLED-equipped models.
