Apple software code reportedly contains references and images tied to the next iPad mini, pointing to an A20 Pro processor and a front-facing camera moved to the tablet’s long edge. The discovery was reported by MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris, but Apple has not announced an iPad mini 8.

- The front camera appears to have been repositioned on the long side of the device, aligning it for landscape video calls.
- Images in the files also show a narrow cutout at the top of the display that may be linked to a revised audio system. The volume and power buttons remain along the upper area of the tablet.
The processor change would be the most significant internal upgrade. The current iPad mini uses an A17 Pro configuration with a five-core GPU. Earlier reporting had suggested either A19 Pro or A20 Pro options for its successor, while the newly found code narrows that possibility toward A20 Pro. That chip is also expected to feature in the future iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, where it has been associated with a six-core CPU and seven-core GPU.
Other expected changes remain less certain. Previous reports have pointed to an approximately 8.4-inch LTPS OLED display, though the code discovery does not confirm the panel technology. Those reports also suggested the compact tablet could retain a 60Hz refresh rate rather than gain ProMotion.
A redesigned enclosure with improved water resistance has also been rumored. Apple is said to be testing an audio approach that uses vibrating housing surfaces, potentially reducing the need for conventional speaker grilles. The display cutout seen in the reported code images is consistent with an audio redesign, but it does not establish any IP water-resistance rating.
Earlier expectations placed the OLED iPad mini’s launch toward the end of October 2026. For now, the A20 Pro reference and camera relocation have the strongest basis in Apple’s own files, while the screen upgrade, water resistance and release timing still await confirmation from Apple.
