Apple has raised the US price of the iPhone 17 by $100 following the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The 256GB iPhone 17 now starts at $899 in Apple’s US store, up from its original $799 price, a change first reported by The Verge.
The increase breaks with the usual expectation that an older base model will become less expensive after a new generation arrives. Apple has introduced the iPhone 18 Pro models, but not a standard iPhone 18, leaving the 2025 iPhone 17 in an unusually prominent position in the lineup.

Its hardware has not changed, but its position has: it no longer carries the typical post-launch discount associated with a previous-generation model.
The revised prices are confirmed for the US, while pricing and availability in other markets have not been established here. The key outstanding question is whether Apple will eventually add a standard iPhone 18, which could again reshape the role—and pricing—of the iPhone 17.
