Apple is reportedly preparing a broader redesign of its physical stores that would prioritize service, online-order pickup and in-store sessions over some of the network’s most prominent visual displays. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the plan includes dedicated Genius Bars and redesigned areas along store walls.
- Apple would rework the wall-side “Avenue” areas to add online-order pickup spaces, including secure product drawers and a counter where staff can hand over purchases.
- Today at Apple areas would receive their own displays and storage for session equipment.
- Large video screens installed at the rear of many stores would be removed and replaced by new Genius Bars with wooden furniture and counters at two heights intended to improve accessibility.
The proposed Genius Bar setup would mark a shift back toward a more clearly defined support area. More than a decade ago, Apple began replacing the traditional Genius Bar format with the more open Genius Grove layout in many locations.
Apple has not publicly confirmed the store changes, their rollout schedule or which locations would be redesigned first. If implemented, the plan would make in-person support and fulfillment more central to the Apple Store experience.
