Bolt and Lucid have agreed to develop and deploy at least 25,000 autonomous robotaxis across Europe, creating one of the region’s largest planned driverless ride-hailing fleets. Bolt intends to own and operate the vehicles rather than simply offer a third-party fleet through its app.
The robotaxis are planned around Lucid’s forthcoming midsize electric-vehicle platform and are designed for SAE Level 4 autonomous driving. At that level, a vehicle is expected to drive without a human ready to take over within defined operating areas and conditions.
- NVIDIA Hyperion is expected to provide the underlying autonomous-driving architecture, including dedicated processing and sensor hardware.
- Bolt and Lucid will work together from the design stage on safety requirements, software and the passenger experience.
- Bolt’s broader goal is to have 100,000 autonomous vehicles available on its platform by 2035.
The European deployment adds to Bolt’s autonomous-mobility work with Stellantis and Pony.ai. It also arrives as ride-hailing platforms compete to bring robotaxi services to European cities, where rollout plans will depend on local approvals and regulations.
Neither company has disclosed a launch schedule or identified the first countries and cities for the Lucid fleet. Those decisions will determine how quickly the planned 25,000-vehicle deployment moves from a partnership announcement to commercial service.
