Chery has signed an agreement with Aumovio to supply electronic airbag control units for vehicles the Chinese automaker will build in Europe. The safety-critical ACUs will be manufactured at Aumovio’s plant in Timisoara, according to Profit.ro.

The deal extends a partnership between Chery and Aumovio that has lasted for more than 25 years, including the period when Aumovio was part of Continental. It adds localized European research, development and component-supply activity to their existing cooperation.

Chery is also laying the groundwork for European vehicle production through its involvement with the former Nissan factory project in Barcelona and an agreement to use a production line at Nissan’s Sunderland plant in the UK. Neither company has disclosed the Chery models that will receive the Timisoara-built control units or the start date for deliveries.
