Coolpad is reportedly preparing a 999-yuan smartphone that could bring the uncommon 16:10 phone format to a far lower price tier. Expected to launch in China this month, the device is said to cost roughly $150, compared with a starting price of 5,999 yuan, or about $900, for Huawei’s Pura X View.
The handset is tipped to use a 6.3-inch HD+ LCD display in the wider-than-usual 16:10 aspect ratio. Images suggest a sizable lower bezel, a horizontal oval rear-camera module and a textured rear finish. Those design choices point to the cost constraints behind the device’s aggressive reported price.

A hands-on video circulating online reportedly identifies the chipset as MediaTek’s Helio G99, a processor manufactured on TSMC’s 6nm process. The phone is also expected to run DroiClaw Zhuge 3, an AI-oriented operating system tailored for the wider display format.
Shanghai Droi Technology, the company behind the software, says core services are built in Rust with an emphasis on data, permissions and communications security. How well the platform and its app experience adapt to the 16:10 layout remains a central question for the device.

The reported Coolpad model is currently expected to be sold only in China. International availability and pricing have not been confirmed, leaving open whether this low-cost wide-screen format will reach other markets.
