Carli Michelle Heller, a 30-year-old woman from Bonita Springs, Florida, has been arrested after she allegedly discussed a planned shooting at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office with Anthropic’s Claude AI assistant. Reports say the chats were flagged by the platform’s safety systems, reviewed by a human team and subsequently referred to authorities.

According to Neowin, Heller allegedly wrote in late September that she intended to open fire at the sheriff’s office. In later messages, she reportedly said she had obtained a weapon and characterized the moment as a final opportunity before acting. Officers went to her home and arrested her without incident.

The case highlights that potentially dangerous AI-assistant exchanges may pass through both automated detection and human review before being reported to law enforcement. Heller reportedly later said she had been using the chatbot as a diary, but the available reporting does not indicate that all discussions involving violence trigger a report.

Heller faces a Florida second-degree felony charge under Section 836.10, which covers written or electronic threats of violence. The charge is an allegation, not a conviction, and the available account does not establish whether investigators recovered a weapon.
