Google is rolling out Pics, an AI image-generation and editing tool designed to work inside Workspace. The service is arriving in Google Docs and Slides first, allowing eligible users to create and modify visuals without leaving the document or presentation they are working on. Drive integration is expected in the coming weeks.
Pics is powered by Google’s Nano Banana model and is intended to handle edits that would otherwise require a separate graphics editor. Users can isolate and alter an object without changing the rest of an image, replace or translate text while retaining the original design and font, and receive multiple generated-image options from one prompt.
The feature also supports collaboration, enabling several people to work on the same image creation within a shared Workspace file. That keeps image generation, revisions and placement in the same Docs or Slides workflow rather than requiring users to export an asset from a standalone AI tool and reinsert it later.
Google says Nano Banana has already been improved for more accurate text generation and faster edits. Bringing it into Workspace expands the model beyond Gemini and Google’s dedicated image-generation tools.
Availability is limited to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers, along with most Workspace business customers. The rollout began on September 1 after a limited testing period that started in the spring, and Google says distribution will continue over the next several weeks.
