Dell is preparing the 14S (DS14270), a 14-inch laptop aimed at students that pairs Intel’s Wildcat Lake processors with a chassis starting at 1.15 kg and 13.5 mm thick. The model is due to reach the market in fall 2026, although Dell has yet to disclose pricing.
The 14S will be offered with an Intel Core 5 320 or Core 7 350, 8GB or 16GB of LPDDR5x memory, and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD storage. The RAM is soldered to the motherboard, so it cannot be upgraded after purchase. The entry configuration combines 8GB of RAM with a 256GB SSD.
Dell lists two 16:10 display options: a 1,920 x 1,200 panel running at 60Hz with 300 nits of brightness, or a higher-end 2,880 x 1,800, 120Hz panel rated at 450 nits. The laptop also has a 61.2Wh battery and USB-C charging.
Connectivity includes two USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports with DisplayPort and Power Delivery, HDMI 1.4, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Other configuration-dependent features include Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E and a 1080p webcam, with an infrared camera for Windows Hello available as an option. Color choices are Linen, Dusty Rose, Washed Denim, and Velvet Green.
Battery-life figures require some qualification. Dell’s published claim is up to 21 hours of Netflix playback for a Core 5 320 configuration with the FHD display, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD. A separate report cites up to 23 hours of streaming, but Dell’s own 21-hour figure is tied to a specific configuration.
The DS14270 joins a broader Dell 14S family that already includes models with Core Ultra and Ryzen AI processors, positioning this version closer to the mainstream segment. Dell representatives have indicated that it should sit below the XPS 13 in price; the XPS 13 starts at $699 in the US. The final price and regional rollout details remain unconfirmed ahead of the fall 2026 launch.
