The best and newest technologies come from Japan, that’s a fact and this HTC phone is no exception. HTC J Butterfly (HTL21) was just unveiled by local carrier KDDI, making it the very first 1080p display device, with a 5 inch diagonal. Rumors about a 5 inch phablet for Verizon have been going on for some time now, ever since July, but it appears that the Japanese carriers are more prepared to make this debut.

HTC J Butterfly is an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean device with a 440 ppi pixel density and a Super LCD 3 panel, that frankly I didn’t even know existed. Inside we’ve got a quad core 1.5 GHz AP8064 processor, meaning it’s a Snapdragon S4 chipset. At the back there’s an 8 megapixel camera, that does 1080p video capture, accompanied by a 2.1 megapixel front shooter. Other specs include 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, a microSDHC expansion slot, WiFi, Bluetoth 4.0, NFC, LTE and CDMA/GSM/UMTS/GPRS.

Everything is packed inside a device that weighs 140 grams and it’s also waterproof, which is pretty cool. The handset is rated at IPX5 and also involves a 2,020 mAh battery, that I hope can provide enough juice for the big screen and connectivity options. Looking forward to see a western version of this model now…
