HTC started launching handsets with locked bootloaders some months ago, causing quite a fuzz in the world of modders and developers. Well, the tiny scandal was followed by HTC’s announcement that the following devices will be launched with unlocked bootloaders and now the company makes good on the promises.

Peter Chou, HTC CEO thanks the fans for patience and lets us know that starting August we’ll get the first unlocked HTC units. These are the global HTC Sensation, that will be followed by HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile USA and HTC EVO 3D on Sprint. The Taiwanese phone maker is in the testing phase for the unlocking ability and it seems that this function will be fully operational by early September.

Rollout of this function will continue and hopefully each and every HTC device will become unlocked. HTC promised an update on this matter every few weeks and reminded us that it values the developer community.
