Huawei has not confirmed reports that it is preparing a smartphone sub-brand called Xingmang, telling Beijing Business Today that the public should rely on official information. The response leaves the reported project, its product plans and its launch timing unverified.

The statement is neither a confirmation nor a denial. Huawei did not announce a Xingmang phone, outline the brand's market position or provide a release schedule.

There is, however, evidence that Huawei has protected the name. Beijing Business Today says the company filed for the Huawei Xingmang trademark on February 1, 2023, with its registration announced on September 14, 2023. The filing spans categories including:

  • Electronic instruments and devices
  • Watches
  • Services

A registered trademark does not establish that a consumer product is imminent. The reports also involve a naming ambiguity: Huawei Central has referred to Xingyao, translated as “Star Shine,” in earlier coverage of a potential sub-brand. Xingyao and Xingmang should not be assumed to be the same name or project.

Unconfirmed leaks have pointed to mid-range Xingmang phones powered by Kirin 8-series processors and running HarmonyOS natively, potentially without flagship features such as satellite communications. One report suggests an October debut, while others point to November, but Huawei's response validates neither the hardware claims nor either timeline.

The rumored positioning has drawn comparisons with HONOR, which previously targeted more affordable phones with an emphasis on value. But HONOR was separated from and sold by Huawei, and its return to Google services followed that split; a new brand remaining under Huawei would not automatically follow the same path. Huawei's next official announcement will be needed to establish whether Xingmang is a future device line or simply a protected name.
