Huawei is exploring laptops that weigh less than the 798-gram MateBook Pro S, setting up a potential new ultralight PC for 2027. The company outlined the direction at its HarmonyOS Office Industry Summit 2026, but did not disclose a model name, hardware specifications or launch timing beyond that broad window.
The MateBook Pro S is Huawei’s benchmark for the effort. The 14-inch all-metal laptop measures 11.9 mm thick and starts at 798 grams, although its weight changes with the display configuration.
- Standard-display model with a privacy filter: 798 grams
- Matte-display model: 805 grams
- Collector’s edition: 825 grams
Huawei positions the MateBook Pro S as the lightest 14-inch laptop with an all-metal construction, a narrower claim than calling it the world’s lightest PC. Its privacy-display version is designed to reduce side-angle visibility and includes a dedicated physical switch for that feature.
Despite its low weight, the MateBook Pro S carries a 14.2-inch touch OLED display with a 3:2 aspect ratio, 3,120 × 2,080-pixel resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Huawei rates peak HDR brightness at 1,600 nits for parts of the display.
- Processor: Kirin XE90
- Memory: up to 32GB RAM
- Storage: up to 1TB
- Battery: 54Wh
- Operating system: HarmonyOS 6.1
The lighter-laptop push comes as Huawei broadens its HarmonyOS PC ecosystem. At the same event, the company said it had shipped more than one million PCs and that its software catalog had surpassed 21,000 apps. Huawei also previewed another computer with a different approach, with promotional activity expected to begin next week; details on that device and the sub-798g laptop remain undisclosed.
