Huawei may return to a genuine ceramic rear panel for the Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design, according to a leak attributed to SuperDimensional. If accurate, the change would distinguish Huawei’s next ultra-premium Mate from the current Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design, which is said to use treated glass designed to resemble ceramic.
The leaked sketch also points to a familiar overall design. It shows the RS model keeping its signature octagonal rear camera island, with four camera elements and an LED flash, alongside a triple cutout on the front. The image is not an official Huawei render, so both the layout and material claim remain unconfirmed.
Ceramic is a plausible fit for the RS Ultimate Design range, where materials and finish are central to the product’s positioning. The material is hard and resistant to scratches, but its more complex manufacturing process can add cost and weight compared with glass.
Previous reports have suggested that the Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design could receive a more powerful Kirin 2026-series chip, potentially called the Kirin 2026 Pro. Privacy Display technology has also been rumored for higher-end Mate 90 variants, though Huawei has yet to confirm either feature.
Huawei is expected to introduce the Mate 90 series in fall 2026. Until then, the key open question is whether ceramic will be exclusive to the RS model or part of a wider materials update across the flagship lineup.
