Huawei’s September 7 event will introduce the HUAWEI Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design tri-fold phone alongside HarmonyOS 7, with actor Andy Lau confirmed as an attendee. Richard Yu confirmed Lau’s appearance in a Weibo statement ahead of the presentation, which is scheduled to begin at 14:30 in China.

Huawei had already named Lau as the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design brand ambassador on September 2. His attendance adds a high-profile element to an event centered on Huawei’s next commercial tri-fold and the next version of its HarmonyOS platform.

The company has confirmed the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design name and its place in the HarmonyOS 7 launch event, but has not yet published a full specification sheet. IT Home reports that the handset will be offered in black, white and purple, with 16GB of RAM and either 512GB or 1TB of storage. The purple model is also said to have a 2TB storage configuration bundled with a stylus.

The Mate XT 2 follows the original Mate XT Ultimate Design, which brought a dual-hinge design and a 10.2-inch unfolded display to the commercial market. Huawei has teased the successor ahead of launch, including appearances of the device in Yu’s hands, though final details on its folding mechanism and flexible-display protection remain to be confirmed at the event.
