Huawei has brought the nova 16s and nova 16s Pro to international markets following a launch event in Munich, positioning both mid-to-high-range phones around 7,000mAh batteries and 100W wired charging. The global models run EMUI 16 rather than HarmonyOS.
The nova 16s Pro is the more camera-focused model. Its main camera uses a 200MP RYYB sensor in a 1/1.28-inch format, with an f/1.8 lens and optical image stabilization. It is joined by a 50MP RYYB periscope telephoto camera with 3.7x optical zoom, f/2.6 optics and OIS, plus a 50MP RYYB ultrawide camera offering a 118-degree field of view and macro focusing from 2.5cm. A 1.5MP multispectral sensor is used for scene-based color calibration, while the front camera is rated at 50MP.
Huawei equips the Pro with a 6.84-inch LTPO OLED display at 2856 x 1320 pixels and a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The company rates the panel for up to 6,000 nits in specified conditions. The phone uses Huawei's Kirin 9010S chipset, measures 7.1mm thick and weighs 218g.
Its chassis combines an aluminum-alloy frame with Kunlun Glass featuring a nanocrystalline coating. Huawei says the protection delivers ten times the drop resistance of the standard glass used on the nova 15, a claim that has not been independently verified.
The standard nova 16s retains the 7,000mAh battery and 100W wired charging in a 7.3mm body. It uses the Kirin 8020 processor and will be offered with 256GB or 512GB of storage. Its smaller 6.68-inch display is rated for up to 5,500 nits of peak brightness.
For imaging, the nova 16s has a 50MP main camera in Huawei's True-to-Colour system and a 50MP RYYB periscope camera with 3.3x optical zoom and OIS. Huawei also lists AI Composition, AI Move, AI Remove, AI Best Expression and AI De-Glare tools for framing, editing, expression selection and reflection reduction.
Huawei first introduced the nova 16 family in China in late June. The company has not announced the prices of the nova 16s or nova 16s Pro, nor the countries where they will go on sale, leaving those details as the next key milestone for the international rollout.
