A recent post on LG’s Facebook page mentions that the LG Optimus One handset could get the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update till the end of May. Turns out that the software will be available in the Android Market, although “the information is subject to change and confirmation”.

A while ago LG seemed convinced that there’s no need to upgrade the Optimus One to Android 2.3, as it doesn’t have the required specs. Now, the company seems to have changed its mind, maybe because this handset was a huge hit last year. We remind you that the Froyo phone sold over 1 million units in just 40 days after it was launched.

This can only be good news and we hope we won’t be seeing delays, like it happened with Samsung’s Galaxy S update…
