MediaTek has introduced the Helio G99+, a revised 4G smartphone chipset that upgrades memory support to LPDDR5X at speeds of up to 5,500 Mbps. The change gives budget handset makers access to faster RAM without moving to a more costly 5G platform.

The rest of the platform is largely unchanged from the Helio G99. It is built on TSMC’s 6nm process and combines two Cortex-A76 CPU cores clocked at 2.2 GHz with six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0 GHz, alongside a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU.

The previous Helio G99 supported LPDDR4X memory at up to 4,266 Mbps, making the G99+ maximum data rate roughly 29% higher. That does not imply an equivalent uplift in overall phone performance, however, since MediaTek has not changed the CPU or GPU configuration.

Helio G99+ continues to support UFS 2.2 storage, LTE Cat-13 connectivity with Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2. The chip can drive Full HD+ displays at up to 120 Hz, support main cameras up to 108 megapixels, and handle 2K video playback at 30 fps. There is no 5G modem.

The update positions the G99+ for affordable 4G devices that need a modest platform refresh rather than a wholesale move to newer connectivity hardware. Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy A18 4G has recently appeared in testing with the earlier Helio G99 platform, illustrating that the original chip remains relevant in the entry-level segment. MediaTek has not yet identified the first phones set to use the G99+.
