Micromax is a company from India if I’m not mistaking and they’ve just announced a brand new phone, called A116 Canvas HD. Apparently there’s a local series of phones called Micromax Canvas, that was quite popular in the country. Now we’re dealing with this new model, that brings the 5 inch diagonal to the budget segment.

Micromax A116 Canvas HD is the flagship of the manufacturer and comes with a 5 inch IPS LCD screen, with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. It also features a MediaTek MT6589 chipset with a quad 1.2 GHz Cortex A7 processor and a PowerVR Series 5XT GPU and 1 GB of RAM. The handset runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and it has a promise of getting Android 4.2 in the future.

There’s also an 8 megapixel cam at the back and a front VGA shooter, plus 4 GB of internal memory. To that we add a microSD card slot, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and dual SIM slots. They support simultaneous operation in standby mode. The battery of the Micromax A116 Canvas HD is a 2100 mAh unit and this model will go on sale in India in February, priced at $280.
