Microsoft’s new Surface Mouse replaces conventional click mechanisms with a haptic system that combines capacitive and pressure sensors with internal motors. The setup is designed to provide tactile click confirmation as well as feedback during certain Windows 11 interactions, such as snapping a window into position or aligning objects in an app.
Haptic intensity can be adjusted, and Microsoft has designed the feature for software including the following apps:
- PowerPoint
- Affinity
- Concepts
- Filmora
An Action Button positioned near the scroll wheel opens Copilot by default. Through the Surface app, it can instead be assigned to launch an application or run a Windows shortcut. The mouse uses Bluetooth 6.0, can be paired with up to three devices and allows users to switch between them.
Microsoft rates the mouse for up to six months of battery life from two included AAA batteries. It contains 30% recycled materials and will be offered in Black and Platinum finishes.
The Surface Mouse was introduced alongside the updated 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop. US pricing is set at $79.90, with sales due to begin October 13; availability and pricing for other markets have not been confirmed.
