Need for Speed: Underground 2 can now run directly in a compatible web browser through Underground 2 Revived, a fan-built project that also adds online multiplayer to the 2004 racing game. No launcher or local installation is required, although the first load can involve downloading several gigabytes of data.
The project recompiles the original PC game code to WebAssembly and adapts its Direct3D 9 graphics for WebGPU. It supports widescreen resolutions and, depending on the device, can reach up to 120 fps. A browser with WebGPU support and working hardware acceleration is required.

The browser build is also designed for phones, offering on-screen controls and tilt steering. Mobile performance will depend on the hardware and browser compatibility. During a check reported by BF.ro, the service showed more than 4,000 connected players, including over 1,400 in free roam, though those figures are naturally subject to change.
An open-source adaptation, not an official remake
Rather than a game rebuilt from scratch, Underground 2 Revived is a technical adaptation based on the open-source nfsu2-web project and NFSU2Recomp, developed by Talha Müderrisoğlu. The web-port author says the experiment began as a way to play the game again with his brother roughly two decades later.
Electronic Arts is not involved with or known to have approved the project, and retains the rights to Need for Speed: Underground 2. While the publicly hosted version provides direct access, developers compiling and hosting the code independently need their own compatible copy of the game. That rights situation leaves the free public service without any assurance of permanent availability.
