OnePlus could make a major shift in its next flagship camera system, with tipster Digital Chat Station claiming the rumored OnePlus 16 will use a 200MP main camera. The sensor is said to measure 1/1.4 inches, while the rest of the rear setup could include 50MP periscope telephoto and ultrawide cameras.

The periscope camera is reportedly based on a 1/1.95-inch Sony sensor and offers 3x optical zoom. That would give the phone a claimed 200MP + 50MP + 50MP rear arrangement, replacing the three 50MP rear cameras used by the OnePlus 15. Earlier rumors had instead placed the 200MP sensor in the telephoto position, suggesting OnePlus may have evaluated more than one configuration during development.

Digital Chat Station also lists a 50MP front camera with autofocus. That detail is less certain: a previous leak pointed to a 32MP selfie camera, and OnePlus has not confirmed any of the hardware specifications.

Beyond imaging, the OnePlus 16 is rumored to carry Qualcomm's still-unannounced Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset, LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 5.0 storage. Its battery could be around 9,000mAh, with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging support.

The display may use a next-generation BOE Oriental Screen panel built around X4 luminescent material. The leak points to 165Hz refresh support across the system, rather than only in selected games, with up to 185Hz reportedly possible in certain gaming scenarios. Other claimed features include an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, an X-axis vibration motor and IP68/IP69 protection. The phone is expected to run Android 17 with ColorOS 17 in China, but its launch timing, international software and final specifications remain unconfirmed.
