Samsung has begun rolling out SmartThings version 1.8.51.30 for Android, bringing a major interface redesign intended to put more connected-home controls on screen at once. The update, which follows the arrival of the new interface on iPhone, has been reported on Galaxy phones and tablets running One UI 9 and is being released gradually.
The redesigned Home tab uses a brighter visual style, compact cards and a floating navigation bar at the bottom of the screen. Device and routine cards take up less space, while a tap on a device icon can switch it on or off; tapping a routine runs its associated automation. Long-pressing a card expands it to reveal full controls, and cards can be resized and rearranged.
- Favorites provides quicker access to frequently used devices, while SmartThings Now surfaces information such as weather and routine suggestions.
- The Devices area organizes connected equipment by room and includes revised tools for building a home map.
- Users can create customizable 2D or 3D layouts, set room dimensions, and add furniture, structural elements and 3D models of objects and equipment.
Controls for QR-code scanning, location selection, the home map, device additions and settings are now grouped across the top of the app. Android adopts the broader interface reorganization but not the “Liquid Glass” visual treatment used by the iOS version.
The update is due through Google Play and Galaxy Store, although availability may vary by device and region. Users can check the installed SmartThings version in the app’s settings; versions earlier than 1.8.51.30 do not include the redesign. SmartThings is also set to absorb features from Samsung Sound, Samsung’s separate Wi-Fi speaker and soundbar control service, which is scheduled to shut down in 2027.
