As Samsung is preparing a water and dust proof Galaxy S4, Sony unveiled yet another spinoff of the Xperia Z series: the Xperia ZR. The new model is advertised as a product that’s able to take pictures underwater, at a depth of 1.5 meters.

The device packs a 4.6 inch 720p screen and its camera is able to do Full HD video capture and HDR. It packs a 13 megapixel Exmor RS sensor, that we sure hope it’s better than the one on the Xperia Z. There’s a dedicated camera button on board, like on the Xperia ZL and inside the device we find a quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.5 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM and probably 32 GB of storage.

There’s also NFC and LTE on the specs list and the display involves an OptiContrast OLED panel with Bravia technology in order to reduce glare. No idea what the price will be, but this model is expected around Q2. The handset comes with the famous Walkman music app, Album and Movies applications that you saw on the Xperia Z, plus Video Unlimited and probably Socialife.
