TCL has introduced the P80 smartphone series at IFA 2026, bringing its NXTPAPER display treatment to AMOLED panels for the first time in commercial phones. The P80 Ultra and P80 Pro pair the new screen technology with 6.83-inch, 1.5K, 120Hz AMOLED displays, while the P80 Ultra also adds a 50MP 3x periscope telephoto camera.
The range starts at €349 for the TCL P80 with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The P80 Pro, with 8GB/256GB, starts at €429, while the P80 Ultra begins at €549 for an 8GB/256GB configuration. TCL says the phones will reach Europe on September 3, 2026, followed by Latin America in October and the US at a later date.
NXTPAPER AMOLED is the key distinction for the Ultra and Pro. TCL says the panel combines AMOLED contrast and brightness with a nano-matrix lithography layer designed to cut ambient reflections, a light-equalizing film, and Circular Polarized Light technology. The company rates the display at up to 3,200 nits, 100% P3 color coverage and a Delta E below 1.
TCL also claims its latest implementation reduces the proportion of potentially harmful blue light to 2.9%, 15% lower than NXTPAPER 4.0, and can dim to 1 nit. These are TCL’s own measurements rather than independent tests of the P80 phones.
Both NXTPAPER AMOLED models retain a physical NXTPAPER Key that activates Max Ink Mode. This switches the interface to a simplified monochrome reading-focused mode with fewer distractions. It is not an E Ink display: the underlying panel remains AMOLED. With their 5,800mAh batteries, TCL claims up to seven days of reading use and up to 26 days of standby in Max Ink Mode, figures that do not represent typical color-screen smartphone use.
The P80 Ultra is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Elite, alongside 8GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. Its camera system includes a 50MP main camera with a 1/1.56-inch sensor, an 8MP ultrawide, and the 50MP 3x periscope camera, with both optical and electronic stabilization. It has a 5,800mAh battery, 45W wired charging and IP68 dust and water resistance.
MediaTek publicly documents the standard 4nm Dimensity 7400 with four Cortex-A78 cores clocked at up to 2.6GHz, four Cortex-A55 cores and a Mali-G615 MC2 GPU. However, it has not published a separate specification sheet for the Dimensity 7400 Elite variant, so any differences behind TCL’s Elite branding remain unconfirmed.
The P80 Pro keeps the 6.83-inch NXTPAPER AMOLED display, Dimensity 7400 Elite chip, 5,800mAh battery and 45W charging, but drops the Ultra’s periscope lens. Its camera setup is led by a 50MP main sensor, and storage rises to 512GB. At a €120 lower starting price, it carries the core display hardware of the flagship without its dedicated optical zoom.
The standard P80 takes a more conventional route. It uses a 6.83-inch 1.5K 120Hz AMOLED screen but omits NXTPAPER, the dedicated key and Max Ink Mode. It moves to a Dimensity 7300 Elite processor, retains 8GB of RAM, and comes in 128GB and 256GB storage options. The phone has a 50MP main camera, a 5,000mAh battery and 45W charging.
All three phones ship with Android 16 and carry a seven-year security-update promise. TCL is committing to four major Android upgrades for the P80 Ultra and P80 Pro, while the base P80 is promised three. The long-term support policy is notable in this segment, though the speed and consistency of future rollout schedules will only become clear after the phones reach users.
