Vivo, one of the biggest phone makers in the world and certainly a top 3 player in China held its annual meeting on February 3rd, where it offered some details about its plans and future. Shen Wei, the company’s founder, president and CEO was there to offer the details.

We learn that the company has achieved a double growth in revenue and market share last year, becoming a top 3 player in China and a top 5 one globally. The company has 22 years of history and even though they had their tough times, they came through in the end. For 2018 Shen Wei promises a relationship between culture, products and brands. Vivo will become more user-oriented and it’ll invest aggressively in 5G and AI.

The official also promises a “world class innovative product”, that will generate a lot of growth in the consumer area. It may well be a sort of iPhone X rival, with notch, AI and 5G, we think. It also seems to me, judging from the official speech, that Vivo is more focused on the Chinese market, than the international one and wants to keep local customers happy.

Vivo hasn’t been afraid to partner with big names internationally, as they had a phone included in the Captain America: Civil War movie. They’re also the official sponsor of the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup, so another bonus point for their image.

Still, we expect to see more from them than the typical high midrange phones with dual cameras. Maybe we’ll see some badass Snapdragon 845 model.
