Xiaomi has published the first full-resolution camera samples from the Xiaomi 18 Fold ahead of the foldable's September 7 unveiling. The selected images point to a processing approach that favors contrast, retained shadows and a more restrained HDR effect rather than aggressively brightening every dark area.
The Xiaomi 18 Fold is set to use a Leica-tuned triple rear camera system comprising a 200MP 1/1.56-inch main sensor, a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. In the released shots, Xiaomi emphasizes white balance, exposure handling and detail retention in challenging lighting.
One indoor scene combines a dark interior with strong exterior light. The sample retains warm color tones, keeps brick texture visible, and avoids completely clipping the brightest areas, while the darker corners appear free of obvious noise or major artifacts. Metadata from one image lists the main camera at a 23mm equivalent focal length, f/1.7 aperture, 1/50-second exposure and ISO 80.
Another image captured at a 46mm equivalent focal length, apparently using a 2x digital crop from the main sensor, retains substantial detail without conspicuous noise. A 100mm portrait sample similarly shows fine facial detail and seemingly natural skin tones.
These are manufacturer-selected pre-release samples, so they are not a substitute for independent testing or direct comparisons with rival flagship foldables. Xiaomi will introduce the 18 Fold alongside the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max on September 7, with the foldable also confirmed to use Xiaomi's in-house XRING O3 chipset. Independent camera testing after launch should clarify how the phone's restrained processing holds up beyond Xiaomi's curated scenes.
