Xiaomi has confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max will retain the rear secondary display introduced on the previous generation, with a new teaser suggesting the panel could gain AI-related capabilities. The flagship phones are expected to debut in China this month.

In the official clip, the rear display shows the word “Generating” amid animated lighting effects. That may point to AI content-generation tools, although Xiaomi has not yet detailed the feature. The company is expected to share more information on September 16.

Xiaomi says owners of last year’s models use the rear display’s app cards more than 4 million times per day, while more than 3.5 million wallpapers are added to the secondary screen daily. The company has gradually expanded the panel’s role beyond notifications and personalization, including support for interactive tools and an interactive gaming case.

The teaser shows a wide horizontal camera module with three cameras and Leica branding, with the secondary display taking up much of that area. Unofficial reports also point to narrower display bezels and an additional frame-mounted button, but those details have not been confirmed by Xiaomi.

Xiaomi’s China launch is expected to follow Qualcomm’s annual summit, where new high-end Snapdragon processors are anticipated. Xiaomi has yet to confirm wider international availability, full specifications or the final software features planned for the rear display.
