Google may be testing a separate social app under the YouTube brand. References to a project called YouTube Tamba were found in version 21.44.534 of the YouTube app for Android, pointing to an experience that could extend beyond video viewing with private profiles, friend connections and direct interaction.
The findings were reported in an APK teardown by Android Authority. They are not an official product announcement, and code references alone do not establish that Tamba will launch publicly.
- Conversation and messaging tools
- A camera shortcut
- Microphone controls
- Friend-adding features
- Tools for publishing posts
The code also suggests Tamba could support private profiles whose content is visible only to approved followers. That would make it a more personal, connection-focused product than YouTubeās standard public video platform, while placing it closer to the social mechanics used by TikTok and Instagram.
Visual assets associated with Tamba reportedly pair a modified YouTube symbol with a more playful, hand-drawn icon style. References indicate development for both Android and iPhone, although it remains possible that Google will keep the project internal or fold some of its social features into YouTube itself. Google has yet to confirm Tamba or disclose any release plans.
