Amazon’s new Alexa Tablet lineup moves beyond one of the longstanding constraints associated with its tablet software: the devices run Android and offer native access to the Google Play Store. That enables direct installation of apps including YouTube, Gmail and Netflix, without unofficial workarounds.

The range also integrates Alexa+, which can be summoned by voice or a dedicated button. Amazon says the assistant can answer questions, control smart-home devices and use its On-Screen Intelligence feature to interpret information displayed on the tablet.

The Alexa Tablet 12 Pro will also be offered in a Nanomatte version, developed with Corning and fitted with an anti-reflective surface. Optional accessories include the Pro Pen, which supports 4,096 pressure levels, and the magnetically attaching Pro Keyboard.

Amazon is also preparing Kids versions with protective cases, a year of Amazon Kids+ and the AI Storybuilder app for creating illustrated stories. Across the range, an enhanced Kindle experience can suppress notifications, reduce blue light and extend reading time to a claimed 20 hours.
