HP’s ZBook Ultra G3a 16 is a mobile workstation built around an unusually large unified-memory pool: up to 192GB in total, with as much as 160GB configurable for graphics. The company says the configuration can accommodate local language models of up to roughly 300 billion parameters, though practical performance, context capacity and compatibility will depend on the model, quantization and software used.

The 16-inch system can be equipped with AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 processor, offering up to 16 CPU cores and an NPU rated for up to 55 TOPS. Its integrated Radeon graphics shares the same memory pool with the CPU, avoiding the fixed separation between system RAM and dedicated VRAM found in many conventional workstation designs.

That memory architecture is central to HP’s local-AI pitch. It is intended to let users run workstation applications alongside AI agents without moving every task or proprietary project file to a cloud service. HP is positioning the machine for architecture, engineering, design and software-development work.

Professional software and cooling changes

HP is working with Perplexity on agents that can use local system information and applications. One announced example involves Perplexity Portable Computer for Windows and Autodesk Revit, where an agent can work with project data locally. HP also identifies professional workflows involving the following applications:

  • Autodesk Revit 2027
  • Autodesk 3ds Max
  • Chaos Enscape

The ZBook Ultra G3a 16 raises its maximum thermal design power to 100W, versus 55W for the previous ZBook Ultra G1a. HP uses two centrally positioned fans, a larger vapor chamber and BIOS-based power allocation that shifts resources according to the active application.

Despite that higher power ceiling, the laptop starts at about 1.9kg and measures about 17.9mm thick. Storage reaches up to 8TB of PCIe 5.0 NVMe capacity, while the 96Wh battery is rated by HP for up to approximately 16.5 hours in certain internal tests. Optional 5G is available through HP Go.

Display configurations vary by model, with each option supporting up to a 120Hz refresh rate:

  • 2.8K OLED, rated at up to 500 nits
  • 4K DreamColor
  • QHD NEO

Other configurations include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thunderbolt 4/40Gbps USB-C, 10Gbps USB-C, USB-A, HDMI 2.1, a microSD card reader and a 3.5mm audio jack. The workstation is offered with Windows 11 Pro or Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, and carries HP Wolf Security and ISV certifications for professional applications. HP has also designed the keyboard for quick replacement by IT teams without fully dismantling the system.

HP says the ZBook Ultra G3a 16 will be available globally from October. Pricing has not been specified in the supplied information; its key competitive claim will be whether software support and sustained performance can make that 192GB memory ceiling meaningful beyond headline model-size figures.
