Amazfit has announced the T-Rex Dual Solar, a rugged smartwatch that places solar charging surfaces on both its front and rear. The company rates the watch for up to 51 days of typical use when its larger rear panel receives three hours of 50,000-lux sunlight each day; without solar input, its 660mAh battery is rated for up to 25 days.
The front solar surface can collect energy while the watch is worn, while the rear panel is intended to work when the device is off the wrist and placed in sunlight. Amazfit says the rear collector has twice the light-catching area of the front panel. A Solar Priority mode cuts power consumption to maximize recovered energy, and the company says the rear panel can help revive a fully depleted watch when mains power is unavailable.
- Up to 25 days of typical use with no solar contribution
- Up to 34 days with three hours of daily front-panel exposure at 50,000 lux
- Up to 51 days with three hours of daily rear-panel exposure at 50,000 lux
- Up to 41 hours in high-accuracy GPS mode
- Up to 40 days in Outdoor Extreme mode
Those solar figures depend on repeated bright-light exposure rather than occasional time outdoors. The 51-day estimate specifically assumes three hours per day at 50,000 lux, so real-world endurance will vary substantially with local conditions and how often the watch can be positioned with its rear panel facing the sun.
AMOLED display, titanium hardware and outdoor navigation
The T-Rex Dual Solar uses a 1.32-inch AMOLED display with a 466 × 466 resolution, 353ppi pixel density and peak brightness of 3,000 nits. It is protected by sapphire crystal. Amazfit calls it the first AMOLED smartwatch with solar charging on both sides.
Its Grade 5 titanium bezel and buttons sit around a reinforced polymer middle frame, while the rear combines titanium with ceramic glass. The watch weighs 69g without its strap, carries a 10 ATM water-resistance rating and is rated for recreational dives to 50 meters. It also includes a white and red flashlight, a feature previously seen on the T-Rex 3 Pro line.
- Dual-band GPS with support for six positioning systems
- BioTracker 6.0 PPG biometric sensor
- 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.2
- Preloaded color maps, plus downloadable topographic and ski maps
- On-watch route planning, turn-by-turn navigation, automatic rerouting and storage for up to 100 routes
- LiveShare location and direction sharing
Amazfit positions the model differently from the T-Rex Ultra 2, which is rated for up to 30 days through a larger battery. The T-Rex Dual Solar instead relies on a smaller 660mAh cell supplemented by its two solar surfaces. Its claimed endurance advantage will therefore rest on whether the charging system delivers meaningful gains outside the company’s controlled light-exposure scenario.
The T-Rex Dual Solar is available in the United States from September 22 for $649.99. Amazfit has not detailed availability or pricing for other markets.
