Amazon has refreshed its Kindle family with thinner, lighter bodies and a new reverse-stack display construction designed to eliminate the raised border around the screen. The result is a fully flat front across the new Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Colorsoft models.
The lineup also introduces new case colors, including Ube, Alpine Sky, Seaglass Green, Graphite and Fig. Amazon is pairing the hardware update with Kids editions and new accessories, including a Bluetooth remote for turning pages.
- The standard Kindle retains a 6-inch display and starts at $149.99 in Ube and Graphite. It has 16GB of storage, battery life rated at up to six weeks, and book opening that Amazon says is 30% faster than on the prior generation.
- A new standard Kindle version with an 80% recycled-aluminum rear panel, matte finish and 32GB of storage is priced at $189.99.
- The Kindle Paperwhite has a larger display than any previous Paperwhite, using oxide-TFT technology for improved contrast. It remains water-resistant, includes adjustable warm lighting, and is rated for up to 12 weeks of battery life. The 16GB version costs $199.99.
- The Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition costs $249.99 and adds 32GB of storage, an aluminum body, auto-adjusting illumination, pogo-pin charging and double-tap page turns.
- Kindle Colorsoft starts at $289.99 with 16GB of storage. Amazon says its redesigned optics, nitride LEDs and display-uniformity technologies deliver more natural color and improved image clarity.
- The 32GB Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition is priced at $319.99 and includes the same premium features offered on the Paperwhite Signature Edition.
Kids editions and page-turn hardware
Kids versions will be offered for each of the three e-readers, with illustrated covers and 12 months of Amazon Kids+ included. Prices start at $179.99.
- Kindle Click is a $34.99 Bluetooth remote compatible with Kindle devices released from 2024 onward.
- The $79.99 magnetic Page-Turn Cover adds physical buttons for the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition and Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition.
- A charging dock will cost $59.99.
- Standard protective covers start at $39.99.
Amazon says the new Kindle models will become available soon through Amazon in the US, with a subsequent European rollout planned. Specific release dates for individual markets have not been detailed.
