Apple’s next iPad mini could reach stores by the end of October 2026, according to a new report. The timetable narrows earlier expectations for an autumn launch, although Apple has not announced the tablet or confirmed its release plans.
The reported headline upgrade is an OLED display, potentially an approximately 8.4-inch LTPS panel with a 60Hz refresh rate. That would mean no ProMotion support, but the move away from the current model’s LCD screen should deliver deeper blacks and higher contrast. Samsung Display is also said to have begun producing panels for the device, a detail consistent with a launch later this year.
Apple is also rumored to be considering either the A19 Pro or A20 Pro chipset, along with a redesigned chassis intended to improve resistance to water. No IP rating has been reported, so it remains unclear how far Apple would take that protection.
One unusual reported change concerns audio. The tablet may use a vibration-based system that generates sound through parts of its enclosure, potentially reducing or eliminating conventional speaker grilles. Such a design could help seal the chassis more effectively, though the implementation has not been detailed.
The current iPad mini arrived in October 2024 with an A17 Pro chip, Apple Pencil Pro support and Apple Intelligence compatibility. If the October timing proves accurate, its successor would arrive roughly two years later, with the display and enclosure shaping up as the more significant changes. Apple’s confirmation, including the final processor and any water-resistance rating, is still pending.
