Apple has introduced the iPhone 18 Pro, a 6.3-inch flagship built around its new A20 Pro chip and a 48MP main camera with a variable aperture. The handset is also gaining a 2TB storage tier, faster charging and a larger vapor chamber intended to sustain performance in demanding apps and games.
The A20 Pro is built on a 2nm process and combines a six-core CPU with two new high-performance cores and four efficiency-focused cores. Apple claims a 20% CPU performance gain over the previous generation. Its seven-core GPU is said to be 40% faster and to offer increased bandwidth, while a 32-core Neural Engine handles AI workloads.
Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro’s vapor chamber is three times larger than the one used in the iPhone 17 Pro. Battery life is rated at up to 36 hours of video playback, while the larger iPhone 18 Pro Max is rated for up to 45 hours. The iPhone 18 Pro can reportedly reach 50% charge in 15 minutes, and a five-minute wired charge is claimed to provide up to six hours of video playback.
The rear camera system matches that of the iPhone 18 Pro Max, according to Apple, with the display and battery capacity being the key differences between the two models. Its 48MP Fusion main sensor has an f/1.8 to f/4.0 variable aperture, a first for the line, and Apple says the new arrangement enables a faster Night mode. Cinematic Effects can also be applied and edited after footage has been captured.
A new Pro Controls interface in the Camera app offers customizable access to a histogram, white-balance controls, shutter-speed settings and aperture adjustment. The controls extend to video, alongside 4K Timelapse and Photographic Styles. Apple is also introducing image-authentication technology intended to verify an image’s origin and indicate that it has not been altered by AI.
On the software side, Apple Intelligence arrives alongside an updated Siri AI assistant with a dedicated app and broader third-party app integration. Apple says Siri can accept voice or text commands within the Camera interface, create automatic spoken summaries of incoming messages, analyze food and recipe photos for nutritional information, and let users adjust the assistant’s speaking pace and expressiveness.
The iPhone 18 Pro has a rear design that more closely blends the metal chassis color with the glass area used for wireless charging. Color options are Deep Black, Silver, Glacier and Burgundy.
In Germany, Apple lists the 256GB iPhone 18 Pro at €1,449. The 512GB version is priced at €1,699, the 1TB model at €2,199 and the new 2TB configuration at €2,949. Preorders open Saturday, September 12, with deliveries due to begin September 18. Broader market availability has not been detailed here.
